Christ Lutheran Church to Celebrate 6oth Anniversary

60_yrs_final_logo.jpg

Dear Friends,

If these walls could talk, oh, the stories they could tell! People have been blessed through the ministry of Christ Lutheran Church at 780 Ashbury Avenue.  For sixty years, God has blessed us to be a blessing to others. It is good to celebrate and give thanks to God for all the people who have faithfully lived out their calling in this place and the places where they are sent.

In our celebrating, we will reflect on our past, rejoice in the present moment, and move into the future knowing that God will continue to open opportunities for ministry. We also want to continue be good stewards of this place where people have gathered to worship for 60 years. It is our hope to accomplish the following projects that will enhance our worship life and expand our outreach opportunities.

Project One – Narthex improvement project, first suggested by Mildred Bradfield, Charter Member, to honor those who first dedicated the church. At that time the small “Lamb” stain glass window above the door of the church was of special significance. This project will restore the original ceiling and expose this historic window.

Project Two – To further honor the original entrance to the church and the All Saints Stain Glass window, the area in the front of the church will have new landscaping and a new church sign.

Project Three – Chancel improvements will enhance worship by lowering the platform for easier accessibility for all; placing the new, moveable altar closer to the community; offer kneeling at a removable rail as a posture for prayers and communion; and offer an intimate worship setting for small groups through a riser design, which can also serve as choir seating.

Project Four – Making plans for better lighting and sound equipment for the sanctuary.

Project Five – Christ Lutheran continues in our commitment to mission outside our walls: The Quilt Project of Lutheran World Relief provides opportunities for us to give generously in tangible ways to people in need throughout the world.

If you would like to join us in making our 60th Anniversary Projects a reality, a gift of any size would be greatly appreciated. Checks may be made out to Christ Lutheran Church-noted 60th Anniversary Projects.

You are a part of our history. Your presence and your gifts to our community have blessed us in many ways through the years. We do want you to be a part of our celebration. The following activities are being planned to celebrate these 60 years of living God’s grace:

  • Sunday, October 26th, 3:00 p.m. – Cabaret/Talent Show/Silent Auction
  • Saturday, November 22nd:
    • 7:00 a.m. – 60 mile relay run led by our Running Group
    • 3:00 p.m. – Coffee with choir rehearsal for all who wan to participate
  • Sunday, November 23rd – 60th Anniversary Worship followed by community banquet

Hoping you can join us for this important celebration!

Sincerely in Christ,

Pastor Sharon D. Lubkeman
